Where the fossil comes from

Two questions come up more than any other: how a tooth ends up in a circle, and how you can be sure it is real. Both deserve a straight answer, so this page gives them — along with what we are careful not to claim.

One supplier, in Utah

All of our fossil material comes from a single established supplier in Utah, working the Morrison and Hell Creek formations — the deposits that produce most of the identifiable dinosaur bone in North America.

We buy from one source deliberately. It means the material is consistent, the identification is done by people who handle these deposits every day, and there is a real relationship behind it rather than a marketplace listing.

Each fossil type arrives with a certificate of authenticity from the supplier, identifying the species. That documentation stays on file here and is what everything else on this page rests on.

How the inlay is made

The inlay is crushed fossil, not a carved ring of tooth. A megalodon tooth does not bend, and no single piece could be worked into a band without destroying it. The channel is packed with crushed material and set under a clear coat, which is why the pattern runs continuously around the ring and why no two are alike.

That also settles what a lot of people are really asking: nothing museum-grade is being cut up to make jewellery. We use low-grade specimens — identified, but broken, weathered, or otherwise never destined for a collection. Material that would sit in a bin gets a second life on somebody's hand instead.

The same is true of the dinosaur bone. It arrives as fragments, already too damaged to be worth anything to a collector, and it is the mineral structure inside those fragments that gives each channel its grain.

Often warmer in tone than T-rex, with visible cell structure in the grain.

A long-necked sauropod. The bone tends to take a high polish.

A predator that shared the ground with Camarasaurus, tens of millions of years before T-rex.

Tooth rather than bone, and a shark rather than a dinosaur. Recovered from marine deposits.

Other species come through from time to time. If a ring is listed as a particular species, that is what is in it — where we cannot identify the animal, the ring is described simply as dinosaur bone rather than guessing at a name.

Certificates of authenticity

We buy it ourselves. Every piece comes from one fossil outfit in Utah that we have dealt with long enough to trust, and buying from a single source is the point — after enough of the same material passing through the same hands, a piece that does not belong is obvious.

Our supplier issues a certificate of authenticity for each fossil type, identifying the species. We hold those records for the material we cut from. Ask about the ring you are looking at and we will tell you exactly what we have for it, and send it over if you want to see it before ordering.

What we do not claim

A ring holds genuine material from an identified species. It does not hold a recognisable part of an animal, and it is not a specimen of scientific value — the material is crushed and set, and it came from pieces that had no collection value to begin with.

We do not claim an individual animal, a dig site, or an age in years for a specific ring. Where the species is not documented, we say dinosaur bone and leave it there rather than guess at a name.

Our own certificates are still being made. Until they exist we will not pretend otherwise — what we have today is our supplier's documentation, and we will show it to anyone who asks.

Everything is legally collected on private land and legally sold. Nothing we set comes from public land, protected sites, or anywhere it should not have left.
